Unit 5

Communications 12 Unit 5

1.    Poetry: Print out the selection, Introduction to Poetry, read it carefully and make notes on the main ideas.

2.    Sound: Print out the selection, Sound, read it carefully and make notes on the main ideas.
3.    Shape: Print out the selection, Shape, read it carefully and make notes on the main ideas.
4.    Lucy Gray: Print out and read Lucy Gray. (Lucy Gray  is only available to be printed in the Lab) Read the poem several times.

5.    Lucy Gray:  Answer Questions #1-8 at the end of the poem. Please follow the same guidelines you used for your short story answers:
a.  Write your answers in complete sentences including the question in the answer.
b.  Provide support for your answers from the story. Put the line number of the poem where you found the support. You can quote from the poem or explain in your own words. If you use a quotation from the poem, use only the part that supports your opinion. Do not use a long quotation.
c.   You will be marked for content and grammar.
d.  Hand in these questions to a teacher.

6.    Lucy Gray: Memorize stanza 1 and 2 of Lucy Gray. When you are ready, find a teacher and recite the two stanzas from memory.

You may do several drafts of the paragraph before you get a final mark.

7th Edition: Read pages 125-126 and complete Practice 6 OR choose one of the topics on pages 126 to write a comparison and contrast paragraph.  Use the Checklist on pages 125-126 to help you work.  Hand in your paragraph to a teacher for marking. You may do several drafts of the paragraph before you get a final mark.

8th Edition: Read pages 133-134 and choose one of the topics on pages 134 to write a comparison or contrast paragraph.  Use the Checklist on pages 133-134 to help you work.  Show your paragraph to a teacher for marking. You may do several drafts of the paragraph before you get a final mark.

8.    In-Class Comparison or Contrast Paragraph and Reading Test: Evergreen: Chapter 10
When you have received a final mark for your paragraph and after you have reviewed this chapter, ask a teacher for the Chapter 10-Comparison and/or Contrast and Reading Test. You will write this assignment under test conditions. You may not use a dictionary. Allow 90 minutes.
