Unit 3

Communications 12 Unit 3


1.    Plot: Print the selection, Plot, read it carefully and make notes on the main ideas.

2.    Thank You, M’am: Print out and read Thank You, M’am. (only available in the lab) Practice using the active reader marks as you read the story.

3.    Thank You, M’am: Watch this short movie clip of Thank You, M’am.
     In a short paragraph, write three reactions you had to the movie. 

4.    Thank You, M’am: Answer Questions #1-8 at the end of the story. Remember to follow the guidelines outlined in Unit 1 and 2 for your answers. (Marks will be deducted for not following the guidelines.) Hand in your work.

5.    Description: Evergreen: Chapter 7
Print the Sensory Vocabulary List and use it as a reference to help expand your vocabulary when you write.

6th Edition: Read pages 93-95 and complete Practice 5 or choose ONE of the topics from page 95 to write a descriptive paragraph. (Your paragraph should appeal to at least two of the five senses. Remember to use your Sensory Vocabulary List.) Use the Checklist on pages 94 to help you work. Hand in your paragraph to a teacher for marking. You may do several drafts of the paragraph before you get a final mark.

7th Edition: Read pages 89-90 and complete Practice 5 or choose ONE of the topics from page 91 to write a descriptive paragraph.  Use the Checklist on pages 91 to help you work. (Your paragraph should appeal to at least two of the five senses. Remember to use your Sensory Vocabulary List.) Hand in your paragraph to a teacher for marking. 6.    In-Class Description Paragraph and Reading Test: Evergreen: Chapter 7
When you have received a final mark for your paragraph and after you have reviewed this chapter, ask a teacher for the Chapter 7 Description and Reading Test. You will write this assignment under test conditions. You may not use a dictionary, but you may use your Sensory Vocabulary List. Allow 90 minutes. 

7.    Grammar 3.1  Complete the following and hand it in when you are finished. Use your Evergreen Writing book for a reference.
6th-Ch. 27 pages 367- 372  and Ch 29 pages 376-387
7th-Ch 28 pages 385-390 and Ch 29 pages 394-403
8th-pages 399-406 and pages 410-421

a)    Write a sentence in the past tense using the verb “think” and the adjective “hesitant.”
b)   Write a sentence in the past tense using the verb “will” and the adjective “shrewd.”
Correct the following sentences:
c)    My daughters has hid their money.
d)   He has lain the book on the table.
e)   Write a sentence using the present perfect tense.

Hand in all grammar to receive a mark.
